Hi, I'm Gary Purdue, a designer and developer based in Hull, UK.
I've been in the design industry since leaving university with a degree in Multimedia Design in 2003. In the past few years I have worked on a variety of projects using a wide range of skills, from web design for blue chip companies to eLearning content creation for councils.
I am currently employed full-time as a Multimedia Designer with the main emphasis on elearning. My role also enables me to create email marketing campaigns, create designs for print, record and edit video and audio and design skins for software.
I can design highly attractive, yet user-friendly design, whether it be a website, illustration or a set of icons. The skills I possess enable me to create balanced and well-rounded designs, taking into account factors such as light and colour and I have a good eye for focal points and scale.
The software I use to create stunning, visual designs is primarily Adobe Photoshop. I have been using photoshop for over 10 years and would like to think I was fully proficient in it. The other software I use to create illustrations is Adobe Illustrator. This software is designed to create vector illustrations which will not lose any detail when blown up, this is especially useful in the print industry.
I can create static HTML web pages from scratch using notepad, I can also create CSS style sheets to pretty-up the pages. I have also started using WordPress as a CMS and enjoy creating a theme for the site using PHP.
The software I use for web development is primarily Notepad (or Notepad2). To be able to code web pages from scratch shows a good working knowledge of HTML, CSS and PHP. I can also use WYSIWYG editors such as Adobe Dreamweaver.
eLearning is effectively online learning. Users can participate in courses, take tests and assessments, with all of their progress tracked on an LMS (Learning Management System). I have been working in the eLearning industry since 2005 and think it is a fast-growing, modern and technologically advanced area. My roles in this industry consist of creating online courses, administering and styling LMS systems.
The software I use to create courses is Adobe Flash, which I have been using for over 10 years. I also code interactions and developments using AS3 and XML.
I’ve created catalogues, flyers and brochures for to be printed. The printed material was then distributed around the country to promote services and deliver information to franchises of Chem-Dry. I had to stick to brand guidelines but also think creatively to create nicely designed material.
Whether it is a simple logo or a full identity change for a brand, I can create simple yet effective branding for a business or product. I can take designs from concept art right through to deployment, ready for print or multimedia.
To save printing costs and to reach people quickly, I have created html emails rich in graphics and text. These emails were hand-coded from the ground up.
